Frequently Asked Questions

How do I report my child as sick?

Illness notifications are made via the Sdui app or by phone to the school office (02602 9494110) — please call before 7:50 a.m. If your child is ill for several days, one notification on the first day is sufficient. The form template can be completed at the end of the illness period.

When does school start and end?

Classes begin at 8:00 AM. Early supervision is available from 7:35 AM upon registration. The school morning ends between 12:00 and 1:00 PM depending on the schedule. Exact times can be found in the Class Times section.

When is school registration for 1st grade?

Registration for the upcoming school year typically takes place in the autumn of the previous year. The school office will inform you in good time by letter and via the school website. We also look forward to a visit beforehand — feel free to arrange an appointment.

What does the all-day school (GTS) cost?

The all-day school in optional form is free of charge. Only the lunch incurs a fee, which is billed directly with the catering company L&D. Registration takes place for an entire school year.

Is there vegetarian food?

Lunch is delivered fresh daily by the catering company L&D. Vegetarian meals are offered.

Which digital learning platforms does the school use?

We work with various platforms — including Antolin (reading promotion), Anton (math and German), Zahlenzorro and more. You can find a complete overview with direct links in the Learning platforms for students section.

How do I contact my child's teacher?

The fastest way is the Sdui app. Alternatively, you can send an email — you'll find the addresses of all class teachers on the Team page. For detailed conversations, please arrange an appointment during office hours.

What is Sdui and how do I get access?

Sdui is our communication platform for parents, teachers, and older students. You will receive a personal activation code from the school office when your child starts school. Through Sdui you can send absence notifications, receive parent letters, view appointments and send direct messages to the class teacher.

What happens if classes are suddenly cancelled (heat day off, storm)?

We inform you about short-term changes as early as possible via Sdui. Please make sure your child knows what to do in an emergency and that a reachable phone number is registered in the school office. Emergency care will generally continue to be offered.

What support programs are available for my child?

We are a focus school and a Start Chances Program school. We offer language support, remedial instruction from two special education teachers, language support groups, and gifted student enrichment. Please feel free to talk to us — together we will find the right path for your child.

Which religions are taught?

We teach Catholic and Protestant religion as well as Ethics upon request. We also offer supplementary native language instruction in Turkish and Arabic.

Is there a support association and how can I get involved?

Yes — the Förderverein Wirbelwind supports our school with playground games, software, events and more. You can become a member, make a donation or simply get in touch through the chairperson or by e-mail. You'll find more details in the Förderverein section.

How can you reach the school social work service?

Our school social work team — Corinna Jurecz and Sophie Gilles — is here for the children at school and for you as parents. You can reach us by email at schulsozialarbeit@grundschule-wirges.de or directly in the school building.

Where can I find forms to download?

In the Downloads section on this page, you will find the Absence Notification Form, the Registration for After-School Care / Early Care, and the Membership Form for the Support Association, each available as a PDF.
