National Reading Day
On Friday, November 21st, 2025, the children of the primary school in Wirges experienced a very special event: As part of this year's Reading Aloud Day, which was held under the motto "Reading Aloud Speaks YOUR Language," students had the opportunity to hear stories in various languages – including German, English, Turkish, Bulgarian, Romanian, Albanian, and sign language. At Theodor-Heuss Primary School, Reading Aloud Day in November is a fixed part of the program.
The Reading Steering Committee, led by Marion Großmann, had prepared the event excellently. The listeners were surprised with a carefully selected collection of picture books and texts. Each child was able to choose a book beforehand.
Particularly popular were the books that were read aloud in two languages. On Reading Aloud Day itself, there was a concentrated listening atmosphere throughout the entire school building. Every room and every corner was used.
Many children had brought blankets or stuffed animals with them. Heartfelt thanks go to the parents, siblings, and students who supported the school by reading aloud in their language.
